Ross University graduates may now apply to Texas

On Friday, December 10, 2004, the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners (TSBME) granted a Ross University Medical School graduate Texas licensure. While Ross University has had graduates practicing in Texas, it was only over the past year that Texas began to decline license approval for any graduates of Caribbean medical schools.

"Ross University School of Medicine graduate's education has been found to be substantially equivalent to that of a graduate of a Texas medical school," said Dr. Nancy A. Perri, Ross University VP Academic Affairs, Dean of Clinical Sciences. The State of Texas is now accepting Ross University School of Medicine graduate applications, something they have not been doing for many of the medical schools in the Caribbean.

Representatives from the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners visited Ross University's Basic Science campus in Portsmouth, Dominica and the Clinical Rotation site in Miami, Florida. The visit was conducted to verify academic information which was submitted by Ross University School of Medicine.

The minutes from the meeting are available on the board's website at www.tsbme.state.tx.us.
