Around Town...

It is generally agreed that the best restaurant in the Portsmouth area is the Blue Bay. Prices start at about EC$30 (US$11). Like many things in Dominica, you have to ask how to find it. It's difficult to give directions when there are few street names and no numbers, but the first Dominican you ask will point you in the right direction. The last will point you down a dark gap between two houses toward the beach.

Katia's Restaurant has recently opened. It serves good, actractive food at a slightly higher price.

The Seaside Restaurant is on campus and has improved dramatically. It is your best bet for inexpensive food.

Students who arrive between semesters will find many of the restaurants that usually serve students closed. However, the Blue Bay, the Seaside, and Perky's Pizza seem always to be open. The latter two are near campus.

Among the other restaurants to consider are the two Chinese restauants across the street from campus and the Sister Sea Lodge which sometimes serves a nice whole baked fish with fried plantain and rice on a banana leaf.
